Destroyed in Baghdad / Repaired in Cairo (elements from a temporary art practice in the auto mechanics district)
Rheim Alkadhi is an artist who works across the disciplines of photography, video, sculpture, and performance. Her work is impelled by word-forms and the potential in combining language with objects and images. Her years as a child in Iraq left her with the linguistic referents and aesthetic systems that inform her practice today. As a result, her work is a visual engagement with war from a psychological standpoint, and often through an absurdist lens.
